rain won't stop and it's time for turkey hunting.

well been raining now for the past 3 day's in beardstown,il.gues that's allright though we do need it but it's been coming down hard the river will be on the rise that's a good thing haven't been able to get up the sangamon this year so far.time to start thinking about turkey season.think i'm done with the mushroons for the year!got quite afew put in the freezer so i'm happy.now going after a few turkeys.haven't been fishing for awhile either this rain seems to start when i can go but things will get better.i think anyway the way this weather has been acting this year it may start snowing.lol.got to go to the doctor this morning to have a talk with doc about this colinostify that's probbaly spelled wrong but i'm sure you guy's out there know what i'm talking about?i'm not looking forward to this thing at all.but he say's i have to have it done.by for now get outdoors and do something if ya can.

at&t is not what they used to be!!

well i moved last week and have been down for the entire week.talked on the phone with at&t for 25-30 hours and they just seem not to care!i have been with them for the past 12 years and now i'm not!!they heehawed around and got me so pissed off i told them to shove it where the sun don't shine.i talked to 9 different agents in one hour and finally told them to just forget it.and hung now the phone has been ringing of the hook wanting me back.to late i went with dish network witch if my tv provider and it is just as good if not better.but i'm back up and running now so you'll be hearing quite abit about my terrible week with at&t.

last of the roons around here!!

well i haven,t made it up north any more yet but went outside of town a mile or so and picked 7 1/2 pounds of fairly nice ones.there was another 6-7 pounds to far gone to do anything with.it's a dirty shame i can't read mother nature cause i have run upon quite abit of this sorta thing alot this year.i look back and there has not been a real good year here in beardstown,il in the past 5 years.but i have found enough to keep me in mushroons for the entire year used to be i could sell quite afew each year but not n the past 5.oh well as long as i got enough for my family and close freinds for most of the year i guess that's enough.it's 2 pm here and it's not 50 degree;s here.think i'll go out and check my turkey hunting ground out and see how that's coming along.there is a plentty of them around.they are pretty good eating also.happy hunting all!!!jim whitis in beardstown,il

mushrooning is over in beardstown,il

well it sure was a short season for the roons this year.i say it again i have never in 51 years seen one like this.it got warm in mid march and then it cooled way down.and ruined everything with 2-3 frosts we had but i still managed to put a few pounds in the freezer.i'm not done forsure i will follow the mushroons north as far as i can afford.i can make to savanna,il after that i will be done.i'd say igot another month of hunting the morels.i have some friends scattered from here to up there and they are finding them now.so i am heading north in the next day or 2.i would like to find another 50 fifty pounds to put up then i know i will have enough to last.so any one in northern illinios get ready they are out there and i think the season for you folks up there will be great.!!so get out there and get to picking good luck and don't give up they are a poppin!!!

mushroons are really comin on now!!

the roons are back on track now.the rain and the warm night done the trick.found a bunch that had been up for awhile and thry was junk rain and wind got them.but went 1 spot yesterday and ended up with 11 pounds fresh ones.the weeds are getting tall in the hills but the bottoms are looking good.i expect to find more and more as this week goes on.so get out there and get to picking.jim whitis in beardstown,il

mushrooms are poppin up north.

well me and a buddy of mine went a few miles north of beardstown,il and low and beholed they where up and very fresh.despite the cold nights they are still coming up fairly good!the grass and weeds was not as bad up there either.i have not wondered to deep in the woods just checking places where i have picked before.forcast for the next 3-4 day's is rain.i still think this is going to be a very good year just started out weird now thingd are getting bact to the way they should be for this time of the spring.ended up with 11 pounds and didn't walk very far.after this rain we should be able to find some big patches.so you folks up north better get ready their on their way up to you.i will devote all my time next week to nothing but mushrooming.get out there and get ya some they taste yummy!!!   jim whitis in beardstown,il

new teeth and a big mushroom

found a couple pounds of mushrooms yesterday and some big ones at that.now that the weather is back the way it's supposed to be maybe there's a slyte chance we could have a normal year.i have not gave up on the river bottoms yet i do think they will come and go just as fast.dam this weather mother nature has not been very good to us in the last few years.let's get through this weekend and see what happens.oh ya got my new teeth today and i can't hardly talk but i will get it down just take a little time.back on the rooms the hills have vegatation about a foot high but! the bottoms are looking good and that's why i say they will come up on scedule.i'll be in touch keep trying you will find some they are around about every elm tree in the hills rite now so go get em.bye for now, jim whitis in beardstown,il

road trip?

we took off yesterday going to check on some local mushrooning spots.their was cars and trucks parked all over the country side.we didn't even bother getting out and looking we decided to just ride around and check every one else out seen some pretty full bags.the weather has been so strange this year i can't read it at all.ended up at a fish fry had a few beers and then home to bed early.it is easter weekend and all think i'll let'm have it and relax.it's around 60 outside and going down in the low 30s at night .we'll see what next  week brings.bye for now.  jimwhitis in beardstown,il

vegatetion is going to take the mushroons over!!!

i did get out today.i know i said i wasn't but i just can't sit around knowing that there is some out there not getting picked i want them all.i did manage to find a pound and a half but the grass and weeds are going to be so tall when it get's rite again.you won't be able to see them through the vegetation.this is going to be another sucky year.i'm not getting any younger.i sure would like to see another bumper crop before i can't walk ant more.hope my buddies up north has a better year (but) it ain't over yet.i will not give upwe  are going to attack them all weekend long.weekend warriors beware!!we will be out in full force and find or not i might stay in good enough condition to go again next year.

it's cold out there?

boy oh  boy it's friggin cold out there today.there's a chance for frost tonight imagine that.this weather is just so unpredictable i can't figure it out.80 one day 55 the next i don't think the fish would even bite they are probably laying on the bottom thinking what is going on here.just like i am.i think i'll stay home the rest of the day and get things done around here?maybe this weather will get back on scedule and i can get back out there.it won't hold me back for long i will get out there and figure this freaky spring ,winter out .so long for now stay warm my freinds.   jim whits in chilly beardstown,il

cold front put's the holt on everything!!

well we got the rain we needed so badly.but we also got the cool down.i went to my hot spot  today for mushroons i found 7 of them.but i do have faith they will be ther it's only april 4th this place never has let me down it's allway's good for 35 to 40 + pounds.i will wait another 10 days and go back it will produce i'm sure.until next time. get out there and do something.    jim whits in beardstown,il

mushrooning

well i have been busy all weekend.went roonong every day and the total was 14 pounds.get this they are allready stating to dry up!we need a good rain or it's going to be be over soon.they are calling foa a chance of rain tuesday,wensday, we will see.i stomped the brush pretty good and that's it.i'm going to wait till morning to go again think  i'll go see about catching  some fish today.hope you guy's up north of me get some rain not looking good here.but gotta remember it's real early should not of found anything for another 7-8 day's.this weather is strange.get out out doors and do something!!!
